One of the most outstanding voices in Palau Dalmases is Monica “La Chicuela”. This singer is the niece of Juan Gómez “El Chicuelo” one of the guitarists and musical directors more outstanding today. Undoubtedly, the influence of his uncle in the world of flamenco has been essential for “La Chicuela”.
Since very young, he has collaborated with various singers such as Miguel Poveda, Mayte Martín or Duquende. He has also accompanied guitarists like Gerardo Núñez or Juan Ramón Caro, and dancers like Belén Maya or Antonio Canales.
He has been a part of both national and international festivals such as the International Festival of Popular Music and Tradition (FIMPT) or the Music Festival of Arrel del Món, among others. In 1997, he was in charge of giving voice to El Amor Brujo together with the National Orchestra of Spain. Another of the most remarkable events of his career is to have been part of the first great flamenco musical “Tarantos” as a cantaora.
Her first album “Cosas Mías” counted with the collaboration of Duquende and Chicuelo and in which she herself was in charge of the composition of the verses. At present, he works on the recording of his second flamenco composition: Luces y Sombras.
It stands out for its torn and very personal voice capable of making us vibrate just by listening to it.
